ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT volleyball team (11-6, 2-2 Liberty League) got back in the win column on Saturday, defeating St. Lawrence (5-12, 1-3 Liberty League) in four sets and Bard (3-9, 0-4 Liberty League) in three sets in Liberty League crossover play at Clark Gym. Against St. Lawrence, RIT won the first set 28-26, while St. Lawrence won set two, 25-20. RIT rebounded to take the final two sets, 25-18, 25-15. RIT swept Bard by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.
RIT led St. Lawrence 20-16 in the first set before the Saints rallied to send the match into extra points. With the set tied at 26-26,
Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) slammed back-to-back kills to give RIT the win. In set two, St. Lawrence went on an 11-3 run with the match tied at 11-11 to pull away. Set three was back and forth until RIT drew away late to win 25-18. In set four, RIT scored five of the first six points before St. Lawrence rallied to make it as close as 9-8. From there, RIT used runs of 9-1 and 12-3 to take a commanding lead and seal the match.
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) led the Tigers with 12 kills and five blocks, while hitting .333. White hit a career-high .692 with nine kills, while
Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) added nine kills and seven digs. Cooper recorded 11 digs and nine kills. First-year hitter
Abby Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) chipped in with a season-best four kills.
Senior setter
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 39 assists to go along with six digs and three blocks, while libero
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) added 19 digs.
The Tigers hit an impressive .345 in the third set and an even better .455 in the fourth and final set.
Alexis Brown led the Saints with 10 kills, while Cristina Deschaine added eight kills. Jenna Street dished out 19 assists and added 10 digs, while libero Katie Prue recorded 21 digs and four service aces.
Fourteen different players saw the court for the Tigers in the win over Bard. Martin led the Tigers with eight kills, while hitting .467 with three service aces. Worth had 17 digs, while freshman
Taylor Harkness (Batavia, NY/Batavia) recorded eight assists, seven digs, three aces, and three kills.
Carly Schriever (Dayton, OH/Tri-County North) recorded four kills, while
Dana Fang (Armonk, NY/Fox Lane) tallied a season-best three kills, while
Hanna Stokes (Frederick, MD/Urbana) tied for the team lead with seven digs.
Tytravia Riley led Bard with seven kills, while Lexi Cooper added 15 assists and four service aces. Ruth Lakew led the Raptors with nine digs.
The Tigers return to action on Friday and Saturday at the SUNY IT Tournament. On Friday, RIT plays Cazenovia at 4 p.m. and The Sage Colleges at 6 p.m.
