ROCHESTER, NY -- Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) and
Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) each scored second half goals as the RIT (4-2-0) women's soccer team defeated St. John Fisher (2-1-2) 2-0 in non-conference action from Tiger Stadium on Saturday morning.
Kiss broke a scoreles tie with her second goal of the season in the 80th minute off an assist from
Elizabeth May (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland). May sent Kiss in on goal with a nicely played through ball. Kiss dribbled into the clear and fired a low shot that snuck inside the left post, giving RIT a 1-0 lead.
Bromson added an insurance goal, her fifth goal of the season, in 88th minute. She scored off a long run on the right flank, rifling a shot into the far left corner to make it 2-0 Tigers.
RIT dominayed shots, 16-5. The TIgers took five corner kicks to four for the Cardinals.
Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) picked up her third win of the season allowing no goals and making five saves for RIT. Sydney DeVitto took the loss for St. John Fisher.
RIT generated scoring chances early in the first half, the best coming three minutes in when
Ashlene Potter (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont)'s one-timer hit off the cross bar. The rebound came out to
Jaimie Lewandowski (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) who's shot was saved by DeVitto.
Kiss and Bromson broke in 2 v 1 on the Fisher defense 18 minutes into the game. Kiss drove in, but DeVitto spoiled her bid for a goal with a nice save.
Kiss had another shot early in the second half, but DeVitto came off her line to make a solid save.
St. John Fisher's best chance came with a little under 15 minutes to play. Alex Rohloff a loose ball inside the RIT area and fired a shot. Murray made the diving save to keep the game scoreless.
With 3:48 to play in regulation, RIT committed a foul inside their penalty area giving St. John Fisher a penalty kick.
Alexendra Rohloff took the penalty kick for the Cardinals, firing a low shot that Murray saved off the line keeping the score 1-0 in favor of the Tigers.
Moments later, Bromson tallied for RIT, puting the game away.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, September 18 when the Tigers host Nazareth College at 4:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
