Volleyball splits on Saturday to finish 2-2 at Battlefield Classic; Sullivan named to All-Tournament Team

GETTYSBURG, PA -
The RIT volleyball team (2-2) earned its second straight split to finish 2-2 at the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College on Saturday. RIT defeated Penn State Altoona, winning the first two sets by identical 25-19 scores, then taking the final set 25-17. The Tigers then fell to Gallaudet in four sets, losing the first two 25-16, 25-13, before winning set three, 25-19. Gallaudet took the fourth set by a score of 25-18. Senior middle hitter Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Against Penn State Altoona, RIT used a balanced attack to secure the three set win. Sullivan continued her strong play to start the season, hitting a team-best .400 with eight kills and a career-best six service aces. Classmate Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) slammed seven kills and added six digs. Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) both recorded four kills. Jokajtys also led RIT with three aces, while White paced the squad with a pair of blocks.

Senior setter Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) led the squad with 24 assists and eight digs.

Against Gallaudet, freshman Taylor Harkness (Batavia, NY/Batavia) dished out 17 assists and added five digs. Sophomore Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) recorded 16 digs. Jokajtys led the way with seven kills and three blocks. Freshman Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) added six kills.

The Tigers hit just .043 in the match and had 14 service errors.

For the weekend, Sullivan hit a robust .378 with 21 kills, seven blocks, and six service aces.

RIT returns to action next weekend, on Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8 at the Elmira Invitational. On Friday, RIT plays Wells at 6 p.m. and host Elmira at 8 p.m.
