TROY, NY -- The No. 4 RIT men's lacrosse team lost a key Liberty League game at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 10-7 on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers drop to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while RPI improves to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Six different Tigers scored goals led by sophomore
Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor), who had two on the afternoon. #A.J.# Tingle,
PJ Hart (Camillus, NY/West Genesee),
Tom Riley (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South),
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) and
Jordan Collins-Hartwig (Buffalo, NY/Clarence) each had a goal.
Sophomore
Anthony DeLeo (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) stopped seven shots for the Tigers, taking the loss.
The game was back-and-forth throughout the first half as the two teams alternated goals over the first six that were scored. RIT had three different goal scorers, while Bret Overand scored twice and senior Paul DiLandro once, with all three coming man-up.
Wes Rudy gave Rensselaer its first lead, 4-3, at 8:15 of the second quarter, but Hart won the ensuing faceoff and evened the score just eight seconds later.
Wisman put the Tigers in front with his second goal of the first half but Grant Foulsham tied the game a minute later. Overand then notched his fourth with 1:41 left in the quarter and Rensselaer led, 6-5, at the break.
The Engineers scored the first four goals of the second half with Overand and Rudy tallying in the third and Overand and DiLandro scoring to start the fourth.
RPI held a 10-5 lead with less than seven minutes remaining before Collins-Hartwig scored at 6:44 and Tingle scored at 2:04 to make the final margin three goals.
RIT finished with 28 shots, while RPI had 32. The Tigers had 31 ground balls to 32 for Rensselaer. RIT had a 15-6 advantage in faceoffs.
The Tigers return home to face Ithaca College on Wednesday, April 11 at 4:05 pm on RIT Field. Wednesday's game will be telecast live on Time Warner Sports Network.
