Rebecca Lampson (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) and junior (Landisville, PA/Hempfield)Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# each scored six goals as the RIT women's lacrosse team pulled ahead in the second half to beat Vassar College (3-5, 0-3 Liberty League) 16-11 in Liberty League women's lacrosse action on Friday. The win improves the Tigers to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League.
Lampson finished with eight points on six goals and two assists, while Vakiener added seven points on six goals and an assist. #
Ashleigh Caruso (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Marlee Vlassis
each added two goals. (Landisville, PA/Hempfield)Tina Podrasky (Scranton, PA/Wyoming Seminary)# chipped in with two assists.
RIT was outshot by the Brewers 34-24. #
Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)# was excellent in net for the Tigers, making 13 saves.
Vassar jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before a goal by Vakiener at the 25 minute mark, broke the Vassar run.
After a Brewers goal made it 4-1, the Tigers ran off three straight goals, tying the score at 4-4 on an unassisted goal by Lampson. She had two of the three goals in the run.
Caruso sandwiched a goal in between a pair of Vassar goals, making it a 6-5 game.
Two goals by Vakiener and one by Vlassis late in the first half gave RIT an 8-6 lead, its first of the half.
Dara Davis scored her sixth goal of the half with 10 seconds to play, cutting the RIT lead to 8-7 at the break. Davis scored five of the Brewers seven goals in the first half.
Vassar took the momentum of the late first half goal into the second half, scoring two straigh to open the half, taking a 9-8 lead on a goal by Elizabeth Feltch.
RIT took control of the second half from there, rattling off six straight goals to take a 14-9 lead. Both Lampson and Vakiener each scored three goals in the run for the Tigers.
A pair of Davis goals late in the half cut the Tigers lead down to 14-11, but Lampson and Caruso put the game away with late goals making it a 16-11 final.
The Tigers look to make it two in a row on Saturday as the Tigers face Bard College at 1 p.m.
