POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The ninth ranked RIT men's lacrosse team outgunned Vassar College 19-6 in Liberty League action from Gordon Field on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Tigers to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in Liberty League play.
A suffocating RIT defense held the Brewers to just six goals, while the Tigers' fast-paced offense proved too much for Vassar to handle.
Tyler Russell (Livonia, NY/Livonia) led RIT with five goals on the afternoon.
Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) added three goals and an assist, while
Brendan MacDonald (Georgetown, Ontario/Trinity-Pawling) had a goal and three assists.
Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) had two goals and and two assists. Freshman
Brad Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) and
Pat McMullan (Easton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) each had a pair of goals.
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) dished out a pair of assists.
RIT outshot the Brewers 51-19, and won the groundball battle 50-25. The Tigers were 16-of-17 on clears and went 1-for-2 with the man advantage. RIT also controlled the faceoff circle winning 17-of-29 draws. #P.J. Hart# won 8-of-12 draws and had six groundballs.
RIT jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the contest on goals by
Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf), two from Russell and one from McMullan.
Christopher Toffoli put Vassar on the board with 1:37 to play in the opening quarter, but RIT extended their lead to 5-1 after the first quarter on Wisman's first goal of the game.
RIT scored four straight to opne the second quarter and led 9-2 at the half. McMullan, Russell, MacDonald, and #A.J, Tingle# eac had goals in the run.
In the third quarter, RIT extended its lead to 17-3, but the Brewers battled back outscoring the Tigers 3-2 in the final frame.
Anthony DeLeo (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) got the start in net, picking up his eighth win of the season, having to make just one save.
Dan Wiatroski (Califon, NJ/West Morris) played the entire second half, allowing four goals and making five saves.
RIT returns home to take on No. 5 Union College in Liberty League action on Wednesday, April 18 at 4:05 pm on RIT Field. Wednesday's game will be aired on Time Warner Sports Network.
