#6 RIT men's lacrosse improves to 2-0 with win over Brockport in home opener

ROCHESTER, NY -- Sophomore goalie Anthony DeLeo (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) picked up his first collegiate win, and senior Tyler Russell (Livonia, NY/Livonia) scored six goals helping the sixth ranked RIT (2-0) men's lacrosse team to a 16-10 win over The College at Brockport in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

DeLeo made 11 saves, including five in the third quarter, and allowed seven goals in his first collegiate start picking up the win.

Russell scored six goals, including four in a six-goal third quarter for the Tigers. #A.J. Tingle# added four points on two goals and two assists, and Brendan MacDonald (Georgetown, Ontario/Trinity-Pawling) dished out three assists.

Ryan Speciale (Painted Post, NY/Corning West), Brad Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) each had a goal and an assist, while freshman Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) had two goals and an assist.

RIT came out sluggish in the first quarter, falling behind 2-0 before a Russell man-up goal with 3:18 to play in the quarter made it 2-1 Brockport.

Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) scored a second man-up goal off an assist from Tingle with 2:44 to play tying the game at 2-2.

Tingle tallied his first of the game with one minute remaining in the quarter to give the Tigers their first lead of the game.

After a Matt Andon-McLane goal tied the score at 3-3 at the 9:58 mark of the second quarter, consecutive goals by Wisman and Russell gave RIT a 5-3 lead.

Riley Austin closed out the first half scoring with 2:24 to play to cut RIT's lead to 5-4.

RIT came out firing in the third quarter, scoring six times, including a four-goal run to start the period.

Russell scored three of the first four goals of the period, and Speciale added another as the Tigers opened up a 9-4 lead.

A Jesse Elliot goal broke the run for the Golden Eagles, but Russell and Warren scored back-to-back goals to close out the quarter giving RIT an 11-5 lead heading into the fourth.

The Tigers put the game away with four straight goals to open the fourth taking a 15-5 lead on a goal by Gillies at the the 9:49 mark.

RIT outshot Brockport 42-34 and won the ground ball battle 34-22. The Tigers were 21-of-30 on face-offs. #P.J. Hart# won 12-of-18, while Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) won 8-of-10 draws.

The Tigers were 13-of-16 on clears and went 5-of-6 with the man advantage.

Riley Austin led Brockport with three goals and an assist. Alex Austin added three goals and dished out two assists for the Golden Eagles who fall to 1-2 on the season.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 10 when the Tigers host Keuka College at 1 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
