Men's Swimming and Diving takes down Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team (5-4) defeated Nazareth College (2-7) 194-95 on Saturday afternoon at Judson Pool.  The Tigers had 10 individual winners and also picked up one relay victory.

The team of Kyle Wilson (Buffalo, NY/Canisius), Peter Coutts (Statsburg, NY/F.D. Roosevelt High School), Ryan Brannan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) took the 400-yard medley relay by over four seconds, completing the event in 3:44.04.

Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda) edged teammate Wade Piotrowski (Webster, NY/Webster Schroder) by 0.27 seconds to win the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:50.07.  Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield) was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke at 55.65 seconds, while Coutts took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.21.

Deacon, Brannan and Van Hopson (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) were seperated by just half a second in the 50-yard freestyle, with Deacon winning in a time of 21.71.  Christiansen picked up another win, finishing the 100-yard freestyle in 48.26 seconds, while Wilson took the 200-yard backstroke in a tim eof 2:07.78.

Piotrowski grabbed another win, edging out Alex Branch (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland) in the 500-yard freestyle.  Piotrowski finished in 5:07.35, while Branch completed the event in 5:11.98.

Christiansen added his third win of the meet with a 53.30 second performance in the 100-yard butterfly.

John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) won the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 294.20, while JJ Bero IV (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) finished second at 221.85 points.  Tellgren and Bero finished first and second in the 1-meter competition as well, with scores of 274.70 and 237.50 respectively.

The Tigers are off for three weeks, with their next competition coming on February 22-25 at the UNYSCSA Championships.
