Women's basketball loses to Rensselaer

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (9-12, 5-7 LL) women's basketball team was defeated by Rensselaer (15-7, 9-4 LL) 75-56 in Liberty league action from Clark Gym on Friday night.

Rensselaer went on a 12-2 run in the middle of the first half to to take a 14 point lead. RIT trailed by as many as 21 points in the first half, but a mini 5-0 run to close out the half made it a 16-point deficit.

The Enginners opened the second half on a 9-1 run and led by as many as 27 points in the second half. Sarah Wetmore led RPI with 21 points and seven rebounds. Hillary McKinley added 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Jen Rock scored 12.

RIT responded with a 13-2 run, cutting the Rensselaer lead to 61-45 on a pair of free throws by #Jess Kramer (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt)#. She finished with 12 points, while #Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds.

RIT shot 36.8 percent from the floor on 21-of-57 shooting. The Tigers were 3-for-14 from behind the arc and were out rebounded 42-28 by RPI.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 when the Tigers host Skidmore at 2 pm.
