ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman #
Sarah Wolcott (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)# drained a free throw with 1.3 seconds remaining to break a 60-60 tie and give the RIT women's basketball team (10-12, 6-7 Liberty League) a dramatic 61-60 win over Skidmore College (14-8, 7-6 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon at Clark Gymnasium.
RIT trailed by as many as nine in the second half, but used a 15-5 run to close out the game to give the Tigers the victory. Skidmore's Megan Gaugler hit a layup with 10.4 seconds remaining to tie the game at 60, before Wolcott drew a foul to get to the line with 1.3 left. Wolcott missed the first, but nailed the second to give RIT the win.

Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)# led the Tigers with 20 points and eight rebounds, while #
Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# added 12 points and five assists. #
Mallory Apperson (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove)# was strong off the bench, with eight points and five boards.
The two teams stayed close early, before Havens hit back-to-back threes just over nine minutes in to give the Tigers a seven point lead. RIT would take its largest lead of the game at the 8:38 mark, with Apperson hitting a jumper, giving the Tigers a 28-19 lead. Skidmore made a late push, scoring the final seven points of the half, to cut RIT's lead to 37-35 at the break.
The Thoroughbreds began the second half on an 18-7 run, taking a nine point lead with 10:50 remaining off of a layup by Molly Gile. The teams traded buckets before the Tigers began their run to close the game.
RIT shot 23-for-53 (43%) from the field, while Skidmore was 26-for-69 (38%). The Thoroughbreds outrebounded the tigers 40-34, and outscored RIT 40-24 in the paint.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, February 14, when they host Union in their final home contest of the season. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
