BUFFALO, NY -- The RIT (3-5) women's basketball team mounted a late charge that came up just short, losing at Buffalo State 67-64 in non-conference at the Sports Arena on the campus of Buffalo State on Monday evening.
Trailing 38-26 at the half, RIT battled back to tie the score four separate times in the second half, the first with 15:08 to play on a bucket by #
Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)#, who finished with 15 points.
With 13:20 to play, junior guard #
Jess Kramer (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt)# laid home a bucket, tying the score 45-45.
Trailing by seven, the Tigers battled back yet again, tying the game at 57-57 on a layup by #
Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland)#.
The Bengals answered right back, building a six-point lead on the strength of a 9-3 run, taking a 66-60 lead on a pair of free throws by Kelly Kell with :23 seconds to play.
Layups by Havens and Kramer off of Bengals turnovers cut the lead to 66-64 in the final seconds of regulation.
With five seconds to play, Havens stole the ball from Hillary Kollar, but her shot was off the mark. Kala Crawford sank one-of-two free throws giving the Bengals a three-point win.
RIT shot 34.7 percent from the floor on 26-of-75 shooting. The Tigers went 2-for-7 from behind the arc, and went 10-of-13 from the foul line.
Havens led RIT with 15 points. Tennant finished with 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Kramer added 11 points.
RIT is off until Jan. 3, 2013, when the Tigers travel to Boston, Mass. to face Wentworth at 2 p.m.
