ROCHESTER, NY - The University of Rochester (7-2) used a 20-3 run to start the second half to grab a convincing 73-46 victory over the RIT women's basketball team (2-4) on Tuesday night. The Yellowjackets opened the game on a 7-0 run but the Tigers answered with a 3-pointer by Wheeler. After a Rochester 3-pointer on the next possession, RIT would rattle off seven unanswered to tie the score at 10-10. The Tigers took their first lead of the game on a 3-pointer by Havens at the 11:12 mark to put RIT up by a score of 15-14. #
Mallory Apperson (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) hit the team's fourth 3-point basket of the first 10 minutes to give the Tigers their largest lead of the game at 20-16. After a basket in the paint by (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove)Madeline Apperson (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove)# again pushed the lead to four at 22-18, the Tigers were held without a field goal for 5:16. The Yellowjackets closed out the half on a 17-5 run to take a 35-27 lead into the break.
Rochester started the second half with two 3-point baskets to extend the lead to 14 before RIT took a timeout. After Rochester extended the lead to 43-29, Wheeler would hit the second of two free throws to cut the lead to 16. The Yellowjackets would respond with a 9-0 run over the next 4:45 to put RIT away.
For the game, Rochester shot 43 percent from the field and knocked down 10 3-pointers, while the Tigers shot 35 percent from the floor. The Yellowjackets forced RIT into 25 turnovers on the game and held a 41-30 advantage on the boards.
The two teams met in the opening round of the Wendy's Classic on Nov. 27 at William Smith College with the Yellowjackets coming away with an 80-53 victory.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday Dec. 15 when they host D'Youville at 8 p.m.
