ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team wraps up the fall quarter with a trio of road games over the next week. The Tigers travel to Brown to play the Bears at 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday. On Tuesday, Nov. 20, RIT makes the quick drive to face CHA rival Syracuse for the second time in 10 days at 7 p.m.
RIT (4-4-2, 1-2-2 CHA) is looking to snap a three-game winless streak this weekend. Last weekend, RIT lost on the road at Colgate, 2-1 on Friday, then battled CHA foe Syracuse to a 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon at Ritter Arena. #
Katie Hubert (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# scored for RIT on Friday. The Raiders won the game in the third period by scoring a shorthanded goal. It was the first time RIT had allowed a shorthanded goal since Jan. 16, 2010 vs. Oswego, spanning 81 games. #
Laura Chamberlain (Norco, CA/LA Selects)# made 29 saves in defeat. On Saturday, RIT out-shot Syracuse 38-24 and went 2-for-6 with the man-advantage. #
Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury) and
Carly Payerl (Kitchener, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic)# tallied power-play goals for RIT, while
Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs) stopped 22 shots.
Payerl was named the College Hockey America Rookie of the Week on Monday. During the last eight games, RIT has allowed just 11 goals, outscoring opponents, 28-11 over that span. Danielle Read (Brantford, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# is six away. RIT's special teams are excelling at the DI level. The power-play is 12th nationally, converting at 21.8 percent, while the penalty-kill is 13th at 85.0 percent.
Brown (1-5-0, 1-5-0 ECAC) enters this weekend's contests having lost four straight games, scoring just two goals over that span. The Bears have scored just six goals in six games this season, but have allowed just 13 tallies. Last weekend, the Bears lost a pair of conference games, 4-1 at St. Lawrence and 2-1 at No. 3 Clarkson. Sarah Robson leads the squad in scoring with three goals this season. In net, Katie Jamieson and Aubree Moore have both played in three contests. Moore is 1-2 with a 1.35 goals against average and .949 save percentage, while Jamieson is 0-3 with a 2.34 goals against average and .935 save percentage.
RIT is 3-5-1 all-time against Brown. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 1994-95 season.
The game at Syracuse (5-5-1, 2-0-1 CHA) on Nov. 20 will be the second between the two teams over a 10-day stretch. On Nov. 10, Akane Hosoyamada and Allie Lacombe tallied for Syracuse in a 2-2 draw against the Tigers at Ritter Arena. In net, Jenesica Drinkwater was excellent, stopping 36-of-38 shots to be named the game's first star. Laurie Kingsbury and Nicole Ferrara lead the team in scoring with nine points apiece. Syracuse is outscoring its opponents, 31-23. In net, Katie Billadeau has seen the bulk of action and is 4-2-0 with a 1.38 goals against average and .940 save percentage.
RIT and Syracuse will also play a home-and-home series on Feb. 8 in Rochester, and Feb. 9 in Syracuse. The Orange are in their fifth season as a Division I program.
