Women's hockey picks up second straight win downing Sacred Heart 7-2

FAIRFIELD, CT -- The RIT (2-2-0) women's hockey team picked up its second straight win with a 7-2 victory at Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon. #Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury) and Casidhe Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects)# each scored a pair of goals, while #Ellesha Fortuna (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# had a goal and two assists for the Tigers.

The Tigers held a 35-18 shot advantage over the Pioneers. RIT went 2-for-4 with the power play, while holding Sacred Heart to zero goals on five power play chances.

RIT held a 3-1 lead after the first period, took a 4-2 lead after two periods, and scored three unanswered goals in the third period.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead at the 10:35 mark of the first period on a power play goal by Marissa Maugeri (Ajax, Ontario/Durham West Lightning). Emilee Bullied had the assist on the play.

Schlattman added another power play goal at 14:56 of the first period, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) and Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)# had the assists on the play.

Casidhe Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) scored her first collegiate goal at 19:03 of the opening period to give RIT a 3-0 lead. Fortuna and #Julie Hall (Mississauga, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs)# had the assists on the play.

Sacred Heart added a goal with eight seconds remaining in the first period, making it 3-1 RIT into the first intermission.

Schlattman opened the scoring in the second period with her second tally of the contest at 6:20. #Katie Hubert (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# had the lone assist on the shorthanded goal.

The Pioneers made it 4-2 with an even strength goal at 9:18 of the second.

Fortuna, #Morgan Scoyne (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)# and Casidhe Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) each scored in the third period as RIT broke the game open.

Fortuna opened third period scoring at 8:08 off assists from Yokoyama and Hall. Scoyne made it 6-2 at 17:20 of the third off an assist from #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects)#. Casidhe Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) rounded out the scoring at 18:55 of the third on her second goal of the game. Fortuna and #Kristina Moss (Webster, NY/Buffalo Bisons)# had the assists on the play.

Last night, RIT crushed the Pioneers by a score of 8-0 behind two goals and an assist each by Schlattman and #Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder)#.

RIT is now 9-3-2 all-time against Sacred Heart and have a nine-game unbeaten streak against the Pioneers over a 10-year span.

RIT returns to action on Friday, October 19 when the Tigers host Princeton University at Ritter Arena at 7 p.m. That game is part of RIT's Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.
