NEW YORK, NY - The RIT volleyball team (24-14) opened up play at the New York State Regional Challenge hosted by New York University by rolling to a three-set win over Brooklyn College on Friday afternoon. The Tigers won their opening match by scores of 25-15, 25-6, 25-15. RIT then fell to Elmira in four sets in the nightcap. RIT won the first set 25-15, then lost the last three to Elmira, 25-19, 25-14, 25-17.
RIT recorded a season-high 19 service aces in the win over Brooklyn. RIT hit .258 overall, including .471 in the second set.
Senior
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) recorded a career-high nine of RIT's 19 service aces. She also recorded nine digs. Sophomore
Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) led the squad with seven kills and hit .500 to go along with a pair of blocks, while
Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) had five kills and five digs. Freshman
Taylor Harkness (Batavia, NY/Batavia) dished out 18 assists. Thirteen different Tigers played in the contest.
For Brooklyn, Jillian Escobar slammed seven kills to go along with five digs and two aces.
Against Elmira, Cooper had 11 kills, 12 digs and a pair of service aces.
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 36 assists, while
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) hit .533 with eight kills and five assisted blocks.
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) recorded 20 digs.
The Tigers conclude the regular season on Saturday, as they face Hunter College at 11 a.m., then play Stevens Institute of Technology at 3 p.m.
