ITHACA, NY -- Matt Broedel (Hamilton, NY/Hamilton) tallied two goals and added an assist as the RIT (9-6-1) men's soccer team defeated Ithaca College (7-4-4) 3-0 in non-conference action from Carp Wood Field on the campus of Ithaca College Wednesday afternoon.
Broedel's two goals give him five on the season, and he leads the team in scoring with 13 points on five goals and three assists.
CJ Brunner (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) tallied a goal and an assist on Wednesday, tying him for second on the team with 11 points.
RIT held a 14-7 edge on shots over the Bombers, firing five of their 14 shots in net. The Tigers took three corner kicks, to just two for Ithaca, who managed just two shots on net versus the RIT defense.
Ben Frazier (Westminster, MD/Westminster) picked up his first win of the season, making two saves. The shut out was the the first of the season for the senior netminder.
Brunner gave RIT a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute off an assist from Broedel, on a well-placed shot inside the far post.
Broedel struck for his first goal in the 17th minute off an assist from Brunner. Brunner sent a cross into the Ithaca box that Broedel ran onto and headed into the far right post for his fourth goal of the season, and gave RIT a 2-0 lead.
That score would hold up until the 87th minute, when Broedel tallied his second goal of the game, and fifth of the season. He broke in on Ithaca keeper Jordan Gentile nad beat him with a well-placed shot.
RIT closes out the regular season on Saturday, October 27 when the Tigers host Liberty League rival Hobart College at 2:30 pm at Tiger Stadium.

Be the Match for the Cure on Saturday. RIT will don commemorative lime green jerseys to help raise awareness and support for Leukemia, Lymphoma and becoming a bone marrow donor. It will also be the last time the senior class will play a regular season game on Tiger Stadium.
