Lodes ties all-time win mark at RIT as volleyball clinches spot in Liberty League playoffs

CANTON, NY - Head Coach Jim Lodes tied the RIT record for career coaching wins, as the RIT volleyball team (22-12, 5-5 Liberty League) rolled to a three-set win over Union in Liberty League crossover action hosted by St. Lawrence on Friday evening. RIT then fell to Clarkson in three sets later Friday.

With the win, and two losses by Union, the Tigers wrap up a spot in the Liberty League tournament. RIT currently sits in fourth place, two games ahead of the Dutchwomen. RIT owns the tiebreaker thanks to tonight's win coupled with a 3-1 victory on Oct. 13.

Lodes now has 231 wins, tied with Roger Worsley, who coached at RIT from 2001-09. Lodes is 231-109 in his eighth season at the university.

The Tigers defeated Union by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-16. RIT hit .333 in the match, including a robust .500 in the third and final set.

Freshman Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) slammed a season-best 14 kills and hit .571 for RIT. Senior Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) recorded 10 kills, while classmate Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) had 13 digs and nine kills. Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 35 assists and added 11 digs. Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) had six blocks, while Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) added 13 digs.

RIT dropped the second match against Clarkson, 3-0. The Golden Knights claimed the victory by scores of 25-21, 25-10, and 25-18. Jokajtys led the team with five kills and Worth added 18 assists. Davis led the defense with seven digs.

RIT concludes Liberty League play on Saturday, as they play Skidmore and St. Lawrence at Clarkson University. The Skidmore match begins at 11 a.m., while the St. Lawrence contest starts at 1:30 p.m.
