Box Score 2 ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - The RIT volleyball team (20-11, 4-4 Liberty League) earned a split in Liberty League crossover action for the second straight day at Bard College on Saturday. The Tigers lost a thrilling five-set match to Vassar (17-6, 8-4 Liberty League) then rebounded to defeat Union (16-11, 3-5 Liberty League) in four sets.
In a back and forth, action-packed affair, RIT lost the first set 25-19, before hitting .464 in the second set en route to a 25-19. Vassar won set three, 25-21, before RIT came back to win the fourth set, 25-20. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Vassar took the fifth and decisive set, 15-13.
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) led the way with 13 kills, while hitting .440 with seven assisted blocks.
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) recorded 15 digs, 12 kills, and four service aces. Freshman
Arielle Pariente (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) tallied 11 digs, while slamming nine kills.
Senior setter
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 37 assists to go along with a career-high eight assisted blocks and eight digs. Sophomore libero
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier), who had a career-high 28 digs in last night's match against Skidmore, tallied 23 digs in today's match.
Vassar had four players with nine or more kills. That group was headed by Chloe McGuire and Clara Cardillo with 11 kills each. Jessie Ditmore and Marie Pitre had nine in the match. Hilary Koenigs had 40 set assists, while defensive stalwart Chloe Hallum had 20 digs.
Against Union, RIT won the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores, before Union took set three 25-23. RIT won the fourth set by a 25-23 tally.
Cooper recorded 16 kills and 11 digs, while
Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) hit ,368 with 11 kills and a pair of blocks. Worth dished out 43 assists to go along with 11 digs. Sullivan slammed 10 kills, while Davis had 23 digs for the second straight match.
Taylor Harkness (Batavia, NY/Batavia) recorded four blocks in just two sets.
Last night at Vassar, the Tigers recorded a three-set sweep over Bard then dropped a heartbreaker to Skidmore in five sets.
RIT holds a one-game lead over Union for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Liberty League. Both teams have four conference matches left and will play each other at 5 p.m. on October 19 at St. Lawrence
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to play St. John Fisher in a non-conference match that gets underway at 7 p.m.
