Box Score
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The RIT men's soccer team (8-4-1, 3-2-1 Liberty League) played to a 1-1 tie against Vassar College on Saturday afternoon. The tie gives RIT 10 points in conference play pulling them even with St. Lawrence for third place, and within one point of the Brewers. Union, Hobart and Skidmore all have nine points and are battling for the fourth and final spot in the Liberty League conference tournament.

Vassar (8-4-2, 3-1-2) took the early lead when Zander Mrlik scored his third goal of the season in the 18th minute. Mrlik took a pass from Jordan Palmer and beat Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park). RIT held a 5-4 advantage in shots in the first half but went into the break down by one.

Mrlik's goal stood up until the 63rd minute when the Tigers took advantage of a tipped ball that ended up evening the score. RIT sent a shot from the corner that hit off a Brewer's defender and past goalkeeper Ryan Grimme.

The game became physical, as the team's understood the importance of the contest. Three yellow cards were administered in the second half and four were handed out during the game. Each team earned two yellow cards apiece.

Neither squad could capitalize in the rest of regulation or during the two ensuing 10-minute overtime periods. RIT had more chances in sudden death, out shooting the Brewers 2-0 in the opening overtime and 3-2 in the second. However, Vassar was able to put both shots on goal but Conway made the stops.

Grimme made his only save in the second overtime period while Conway registered six saves overall.

Vassar held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, October 17, when they travel to St. John Fisher for a non-conference match up. The two teams met last season with RIT earning a 2-0 victory thanks to two goals by Jimmy Forbes (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius). RIT hasn't lost to the Cardinals since Oct. 25, 2008, winning three straight in the series.
