POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The RIT volleyball team (19-10, 3-3 Liberty League) earned a split in Liberty League crossover action at Vassar College on Friday night. The Tigers recorded a three-set sweep over Bard (5-16, 0-10 Liberty League) then dropped a heartbreaker to Skidmore (17-5, 7-0 Liberty League) in five sets. Skidmore is on a tremendous roll, having won 15 straight matches.
RIT defeated Bard by scores of 25-9, 25-20, 25-14 in the opening match. RIT slammed 32 kills and hit ,308 as a team, including .524 in the first set. RIT also recorded 11 service aces.
Suzanne Jokjatys led the way with nine kills, hitting .353 in two sets.
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) recorded five kills and three service aces.
Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) hit ,385 with five kills, while
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) added four blocks and two blocks. Setter
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) had 20 assists in just two sets.
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) led the team with seven digs.
The Raptors got seven kills from Mai Aurell-Foulser, 18 assists from Lexi Cooper, and five kills and seven digs from Ruth Lakew.
RIT lost the first set to Skidmore 27-25, then rebounded to win set two, 25-16. Skidmore battled to win the third set 25-22, before RIT responded with a 27-25 win in the fourth set. Skidmore outlasted RIT in the decisive set, 15-10. The Tigers recorded season highs of 98 digs and 70 kills.
Cooper recorded career-best totals of 21 digs and 19 kills, while
Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) hit ,348 with a career-best 13 kills and three blocks. Worth tied her career-high with 54 assists to go along with 16 digs. Jokajtys and Sullivan slammed 13 kills each. Sullivan also hit .400 and added four blocks. Davis had a career-best 28 digs in the loss.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, as they play Vassar at 11 a.m. and Union at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be played on the campus of Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
