Women's hockey keeps on rolling; stays undefeated with 4-1 win over Adrian

ROCHESTER, NY -- The top-ranked RIT (14-0-0) women's hockey team remainded undefeated on the season with a 4-1 win over Adrian College (5-7-2) in non-conference action from Ritter Arena on Saturday afternoon. RIT is now 44-1-2 over its last 47 regular season games dating back to Jan. 30, 2010. #Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# tallied three points on two goals and an assist.

RIT dominated shots on goal 41-13 and were 1-for-5 on the power play. The Tigers held the Bulldogs scoreless on nine power play chances on Saturday, and held Adrian scoreless on 14 total power plays in the two-game series.

Freshman goaltender #Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs)# improved to 5-0-0 on the season, allowing one goal and making 12 saves in net for RIT. Brittany Zeches was excellent in net for Adrian, allowing four goals and making 37 saves, falling to 2-2-1 on the season.

#Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# had a goal and an assist for the Tigers, earning the games first star. #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects)# tallied the other Tigers goal, while #Ali Hills (Honeoye Falls, NY)#, #Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)#, #Kristina Moss (Webster, NY/Buffalo Bisons) and Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder)# each had assists. The assist by Yokoyama gives her at least one point in 14 straight games.

Sarah Connelly scored the Bulldogs lone goal, while Nina Laurie had an assist.

McCrea scored at 1:26 of the first period off assists from Schlattman and Hills. Off a face-off, Hills fired a shot on net, the rebound came to Schlattman who slid a pass over the McCrea who jammed home a puck for her 13th goal of the season.

Adrian tied the score at 3:56 of the first on Connelly's third of the season. Connelly and Laurie broke in two-on-one with Laurie feeding Connelly who beat Binnington low just between the post and her skate.

Kunichika made it 2-1 Tigers at 17:27 of the first on an assist from Yokoyama. Kunichika played catch back and forth with Yokoyama inside the Adrian zone. Yokoyama fed Kunichika at the face-off dot and she fired a slap shot that beat Zeches clean for her tenth goal of the seaosn.

The lone goal of the second period came on the power play at 14:48. Schlattman poked home a loose puck in front of the Bulldogs net on assists from Moss and McCrea. Moss started the play with a slap shot from the point. The rebound came out front and McCrea and Schlattman kept poking away at the loose puck. It was Schlattman's sixth goal of the seaspn, and third of the weekend.

McCrea added an empty-net goal at 18:33 of the third off an assist from Hiller.

The Tigers hit the road next weekend for a pair of critical conference games at SUNY Plattsburgh on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game gets underway at 7 pm, while Saturday's games faces off at 3 pm.
