ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team (4-4) was defeated by the University of Rochester (5-5) 173.5-119.5 on Saturday afternoon at the Judson Pool. The Tigers had four individual winners and one relay victory.
Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield) picked up RIT's first win of the meet in the 50-yard freestyle, completing the sprint in 21.43 seconds.
Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) was right behind, finishing in third with a time of 21.91 seconds.
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 232.95, while teammates
JJ Bero IV (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) and
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) finished in second and third with 227.95 and 213.20 points respectively.
Julius Jeong (Salisbury, MD/Wicomico) took the victory in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:11.28, while
Matthew Partacz (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca) finished second in 2:13.08.
The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of
Ryan Brannan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena),
Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda), Deacon and Christiansen took the win with a time of 1:27.60.
RIT had several second place finishes as well. The team of
Kyle Wilson (Buffalo, NY/Canisius),
Peter Coutts (Statsburg, NY/F.D. Roosevelt High School), Brannan and Christiansen took second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.25. Wilson also took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.52.
Joe Meiman (Milford, NH/Milford) placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:23.17.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, as they host Nazareth at 1 p.m.
