ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT women's hockey team (16-1-1, 10-1-1 ECAC West), ranked second in Division III, scored the final six goals of the game to defeat  ECAC West foe Buffalo State College (6-9-2, 3-6-1 ECAC West) 6-1, in front of 846 fans at Ritter Arena on Saturday evening. For the second straight evening, the team honored the United States Armed Forces by wearing special camouflage jerseys.

Buffalo State opened the scoring in the first period, but the Tigers responded by scoring two later in the frame and four in the second period to pull away.

#Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# led the offensive onslaught with a pair of goals, while #Kristina Moss (Webster, NY/Buffalo Bisons) scored for the fourth straight game and added three assists. (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder)#, #Erin Zach (Elmira, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)#, and #Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) also scored for the Tigers. (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Danielle Read (Brantford, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# dished out a pair of assists.

Goaltender #Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs) made 10 saves for her sixth win of the season. (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Carley King (Tinley Park, IL)# played the final 8:33, stopping one shot.

Courtney Carnes scored Buffalo State's lone goal, on the power-play. Jess Garland took the loss in net, stopping 22 shots in 31:38. Jordan Lee stopped 22 of 24 shots over the final 28:22.

RIT was 3-for-8 with the man-advantage, while Buffalo State was 1-for-9.  RIT out-shot the Bengals 50-12.

RIT jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one period of play, out-shooting the Bengals, 17-3.

The Bengals opened the scoring on the power-play at the 14:34 mark of the opening period, as Carnes tipped in a shot from Leah Knott past Binnington for her sixth goal of the season.

Just 33 seconds later, RIT answered with a power-play goal of its own, as Hiller tipped in a shot by Moss after a feed from Yokoyama to tie the game at 1-1.  The goal was Hiller's 12th of the season.

RIT took its first lead of the game with 2:01 left in the period, also on the power-play, as Schlattman jammed in a loose puck at the side of the net after a point shot by Moss was tipped on net by Hiller.  The rebound was lying in the crease, where Schlattman tapped it in for her eighth tally of the year.

The Tigers broke the game wide open with four consecutive goals in the second period.

Moss took a feed from Read in the slot and fired a blast past Garland for her fifth goal of the season and fourth in the last four games at the 8:35 mark to give RIT a 3-1 lead.

Just over three minutes later, Schlattman potted her second of the game and ninth of the season, shorthanded, to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.  Moss fed Read in the neutral zone, who fired a shot wide.  Schlattman corralled the rebound, came out in front and whistled a wrist shot over the shoulder of Garland.

At that point, the Bengals pulled Garland for Lee and called a timeout, but RIT tallied 31 seconds later, as Zach took a great feed from #Ali Hills (Honeoye Falls, NY) in front and put the puck into the open net for her third goal of the year. (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Morgan Scoyne (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)# found Hills in front, who made a great fake on a defenseman in front and fed Zach who was all alone for the goal.

Grigg concluded the onslaught with a brilliant individual effort, knifing through three Buffalo State players before slipping a shot just over the goal line past Lee for her fourth goal of the season.

Last night, five different players scored in RIT's 5-2 win.

RIT is 19-1-1 all-time against Buffalo State and have won 11 straight against the Bengals.  Buffalo State's lone win over RIT came during the 2005-06 season.

This weekend, RIT paid tribute to the United States Armed Forces.  The Tigers wore special “camouflage” jerseys for both games which were auctioned off online.  All proceeds for this event go towards benefiting The Wounded Warriors Project.  For more information, go to http://www.rit.edu/studentaffairs/supportveterans/.

RIT is off until Tuesday, January 31, when they host Hamilton in their final non-conference regular season game of the season. The opening face-off is slated for 7 p.m.
