Women's basketball loses to Vassar on big run to start second half

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (7-9, 3-4 LL) women's basketball team fell to Vassar College (9-5, 3-2 LL) 73-51 of their Liberty League contest on Saturday afternoon.

RIT trailed by nine points early in the first half and by as many as 16 points. The Brewers extended their lead to 25 points in the second half.

The Tigers shot 37.9 percent from the floor on 22-of-58 shooting. The Tigers made just 4-of-12 from three point land and were 3-of-6 from the foul line.

Vassar had a 49-20 rebounding edge, including 16 offensive boards. RIT committed 15 turnovers, while Vassar turned the ball over 21 times.

#Anne Wapshare (Blasdell, NY/Immaculata Academy) (Cohocton, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# led RIT with 15 points, including 11 in the second half. She was 6-for-11 from the floor including and grabbed five rebounds.  #Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)# added 11 points, and #Anne Wapshare (Blasdell, NY/Immaculata Academy)# scored nine for the Tigers who fall to 3-4 in conference play.

Cydni Matsuoka was one of four Brewers to score in double figures. She led Vassar with 18 points. Brittany Parks added 17 points, while Colleen O'Connell and Kristyn Tempora had 13 and 10 points respectively.

RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 24 when they face Union College at 6 pm in Schnectady, New York.
