ROCHESTER, NY - The No. 2 RIT women's hockey team will pay tribute to the United States Armed Forces during its home games against ECAC West rival Buffalo State College on Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Ritter Arena. The Tigers will wear special “camouflage” jerseys for both games which will be auctioned off online. All Proceeds for this event will go towards benefiting The Wounded Warriors Project. The
Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit organization exists to honor and empower Wounded Warriors who incurred service-connected injures on or after September 11, 2001. Their mission is to "honor and empower wounded warriors" of the United States Armed Forces. WWP works to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
The special game-worn jerseys from the two games against Buffalo State will be
auctioned off on-line starting Wednesday January 18 and ending Monday January 23 at 10 a.m. Both games will get underway at 7:05 p.m. The team plans to sell commemorative T-shirts on January 19-20 on the campus of RIT in the Student Activities Union (SAU) lobby. T-shirts will also be available prior and during both games at Ritter Arena. Admission to both games is free.
After Saturday's game, the Tigers will be signing special camouflage jersey team photos at the RITZ Sports Zone.
The Tigers are currently the No. 2 ranked team in the current Division III USCHO.com poll with a 14-1-1 record and are 8-1-1 in ECAC West play. The Bengals are currently 6-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in ECAC West play. RIT is 17-1-1 all-time against Buffalo State and have won nine straight against the Bengals.
Last year, the Tigers partnered with with Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and Geneva General Cardiology Associates to raise $10,219 for Finger Lakes Health to help "
Black Out Heart Disease". In 2010, both the men's and women's teams along with Zeta Tau Alpha raised $21,248 for cancer research in their “
Make The Rink Pink” promotion. On Jan. 6, the women's hockey team presented a check for $3,825 to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester in conjuction with a fundraiser that the Tigers hosted at Park Point in October.
