ELMIRA, NY -- The #4 RIT men's lacrosse team improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8 with a 28-2 win over Elmira College on Wednesday. The 28 goals scored by the Tigers is the most goals scored since 1997, when RIT scored a school-record 30 goals versus Niagara University.
Twelve different Tigers scored goals, including
Kelso Davis (Freeport, ME/Deerfield Academy),
Tyler Russell (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and
Matt Lesczynski (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) who each tallied five for the Tigers. Lesczynski, who had three assists on the day, had a career high in points with eight and goals with five.
Seventeen different players tallied a point for RIT who set a program record for points in a game with 51.
Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) had three goals and three assists,
Jordan MacIntosh (Oakville, ON/Holy Trinity) added a goal and three assists and
Tanner King (Virginia Beach, VA/Corning East) had two goals and an assist.
Chris Cherami (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and
Iric Bressler (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) added two and three assists respectively.
RIT outshot Elmira 60-17 and won 27-of-34 face-offs. The Tigers were 11-of-17 on clearing attempts, and were 5-of-10 on man-up opportunities.
Tyler Shaw (Tully, NY/Tully) was 16-of-18 on face-offs, while MacIntosh went 13-of-16. MacIntosh also grabbed a game-high seven ground balls.
The Tigers defense, which is allowing 7.25 goals per game, held the Soaring Eagles to just two goals on the afternoon.
Senior
Bob Tonnessen (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) got the start in net. He played the first 30 minutes, allowing two goals and picking up his eighth win of the season.
Anthony Deleo (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) played the second half, making three saves and did not allow a goal.
RIT led 6-0 after the first quarter, and broke the game open in the second quarter scoring eight goals. Leading 14-2 at the half, RIT shut out Elmira in the second half and tallied 14 goals, seven in each of the third and fourth quarters.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 9 when they host Empire 8 rival Ithaca College. Face-off is at 12 p.m. on RIT Field. Saturday's game will be broadcast on Time Warner Sports Network.
