#5 Men's lacrosse opens E8 play with win at Hartwick

ONEONTA, NY -- The fifth ranked RIT men's lacrosse team improved to 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play with a 14-5 win at Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon. Senior Iric Bressler (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) led a balanced Tigers attack with seven points on two goals and five assists, as nine different Tigers scored goals. MJ Kiekebelt (Caledon, Ontario/St. Andrews College/Aurora) led a stout RIT defense, grabbing eight ground balls and causing three turnovers.

RIT led 3-0 after the first quarter. Bressler and Russell accounted for all the scoring. Bressler scored the first two goals of the quarter and Russell scored with 1:37 to play in the quarter on an assist from Bressler to give the Tigers the early advantage.

The Tigers added four more goals in the second quarter and led 7-3 at the half. Russell, Kelso Davis (Freeport, ME/Deerfield Academy), Chris Cherami (Olwick, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and Jordan MacIntosh (Oakville, ON/Holy Trinity) all scored for RIT.

Cherami and MacIntosh scored the only goals in the third quarter as the Tigers increased their lead to 9-3.

RIT added five goals in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Russell finished with three goals, while Bressler, Cherami and MacIntosh each had two goals. #A.J. Tingle and (Georgetown, Ontario/Trinity-Pawling)Doug Hemink# each had a goal and an assist.

RIT dominated defensively allowing only 11 shots to get through on net. The Tigers won the ground ball battle 43-27 and were 16-of-17 on clearing attempts.

Bob Tonnessen (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) picked up his fifth win of the season allowing four goals and making four saves. Kiekebelt was awesome, grabbing eight ground balls, winning 110-of-15 face offs, causing three turnovers and adding an assist.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, March 30 when they travel to Cortland to face the fourth-ranked Red Dragons in a re-match of last years NCAA Quarterfinals match-up. Face-off is set for 4 pm in Cortland, New York.
