No. 1 women's hockey extends unbeaten streak to 22 games with win at Elmira

Tigers win at Elmira's Murray Athletic Center for the first time in program history.

Sarah Dagg had a goal and an assist as No. 1 RIT remained unbeaten with a 3-1 win at Elmira on Friday.

ELMIRA, NY -- The No. 1 RIT women's hockey team scored two first-period goals and held on for a key ECAC West victory, defeating No. 6 Elmira College 3-1 In ECAC West road action at the Murray Athletic Center on Friday. The Tigers remain unbeaten on the season, improving to 20-0-2, and 13-0-2 in ECAC West play.  It is the first time RIT has even beaten Elmira on the road.

"It was a gutsy effort by us tonight," said Head Coach Scott McDonald, who wins his 101st game behind RIT's bench. "It wasn't a pretty game, and we took a lot of poor penalties, but we got the job done in the end."

Freshman #Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# gave RIT an early lead, scoring 27 seconds into the contest on assists from #Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks) and Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)#.  The goal was McCrea's 16th of the season.

Sophomore #Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)# made it 2-0 RIT at 14:11 of the first period on an assist from #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects)#. For Yokoyama, it was her third goal of the season.

Lindsay Mitchell pulled the Soaring Eagles (15-5-2, 11-2-2 ECAC West) to within a goal at 14:35 of the first period on her fourth of the season.

Despite firing 22 combined shots, neither team scored in the second period.

The Tigers fired 13 shots in the third period, but Dagg's empty-net goal with 18 seconds remaining in the third period iced the game away for the Tigers.

Dagg finished with a goal and an assist for the Tigers who remain atop the ECAC West standings with a 13-0-2 conference record.  The Tigers lead second place SUNY Plattsburgh by four points.  The Cardinals have one game in hand on RIT.

Dagg now has 34 points (14-20-34) in 22 games this season, and 146 career points (59-87-146) in 101 games.  She is now just seven points shy of the all-time record at RIT.

Schlattman added a pair of assists for RIT who outshot Elmira 41-23. The Tigers were 0-for-4 on the power play and held the Soaring Eagles to no goals in nine power play chances.

Freshman #Laura Chamberlain (Norco, CA/LA Selects)# picked up her 13th win of the season on Friday allowing one goal and making 22 saves.  She is now 13-0-2 with a 0.88 goals against average and .953 save percentage.

Lauren Sullivan made 38 saves in defeat for the Soaring Eagles.

RIT allowed less than two goals in a game for the 18th time this season.  The have allowed just 18 goals in 22 games and have out-scored foes 123-18.

The Tigers are off until next Friday when they host ECAC West foe SUNY Oswego. Face-off at Ritter Arena is at 3 p.m.
