No. 1 women's hockey moves to 10-0 for the second straight season with win over Chatham

ROCHESTER, NY –
The No. 1 RIT women's hockey team (10-0-0, 8-0-0 ECAC West) is now 10-0 for the second straight season after defeating visiting Chatham (0-6-0, 0-6-0 ECAC West) 14-1 at Ritter Arena on Saturday afternoon.  Seventeen of RIT's 18 skaters recorded at least a point in the win.

#Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# recorded a career-best six points on two goals and four assists, while #Julie Hall (Mississauga, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs) set a career-high in points for the second straight game with five on two goals and three assists. (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Celeste Brown (Great Falls, MT/National Sports Academy)# recorded a goal and three assists, while #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) and Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets)# each tallied two goals and an assists.  #Kristina Moss (Webster, NY/Buffalo Bisons)#, #Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)#, and #Melissa Bromley (Aurora, Ontario/Aurora Panthers)# had a goal and an assist apiece.  #Jamie Parhar (Calgary, Alberta) and Erin Zach (Elmira, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# also scored goals for the Tigers.

#Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs) and Carley King (Tinley Park, IL)# combined on the win for RIT.  Binnington made 11 saves in two periods of play, while King made three third period stops.

The Tigers cruised from the opening whistle, scoring six times in the first period, and four more in both the second and third periods.  RIT out-shot Chatham 59-15.  The Tigers were 3-for-3 with the man-advantage, while Chatham was 1-for-5.

Sydney Williams scored Chatham's lone goal, tipping in a shot from Gina Abrego on the power-play midway through the second period.  Megan Buchanan stopped 20 shots in the first period.  Kaitlynn Smith played the final two periods, stopping 25 shots.

Like last night, the Tigers came out and set the tempo immediately.  McCrea opened the scoring just 1:52 in, then Moss made it 2-0 off a feed from McCrea less than three minutes later.  Kunichika scooped up a loose puck at the side of the net to make it 3-0 at the 5:16 mark.  McCrea tallied her second goal of the game at the 10:58 mark, then Brown whistled a shot home 17 seconds later.  Hall took a feed from McCrea in the final minute of the period to give RIT a 6-0 lead.

Hall made it 7-0 just 1:35 into the second period, intercepting a pass in the neutral zone and ripping a shot under the crossbar and in.  Grigg made it 8-0 three minutes later.  After Williams scored for Chatham to make it 8-1, Parhar tipped in a pass from #Hannah Epstein (Amherst, NY/Nichols School)# to give RIT a 9-1 lead at the 8:42 mark.  Yokoyama scored her third of the season a little over three minutes later.

Zach scored RIT's first shorthanded goal of the season 3:09 into the final period to make it 11-1.  Kunichika and Bromley tallied power-play goals, while Grigg scored her second of the game to finish out the scoring.

Last night, the Tigers defeated the Cougars by a score of 15-0 behind two goals and five assists from #Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)#.  RIT's 29 goals over the weekend are the most scored in a two-game stretch in program history. It is also the first time RIT scored in double-digits in back-to-back games since the 2002-03 season.

RIT is 10-0-0 all-time against the Cougars, out-scoring them, 88-5.  Overall, RIT has outscored its opponents 72-10 this season. 

The Tigers return to action next weekend with a pair of games against top-10 teams.  RIT travels to play at Trinity and No. 6 Amherst on Saturday and Sunday.
