No. 1 women's hockey rolls to shutout win over Chatham

ROCHESTER, NY –
The No. 1 RIT women's hockey team (9-0-0, 7-0-0 ECAC West) won its ninth straight game to start the 2011-12 season, scoring a season-high 15 goals in defeating visiting Chatham (0-5-0, 0-5-0 ECAC West) 15-0 at Ritter Arena on Friday evening.

Sixteen different Tigers recorded at least one point, as #Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# led the way with a career-high seven points on two goals and five assists.  The seven points in game are one shy of the school record of eight, done three times, most recently in 2002.

Freshman #Julie Hall (Mississauga, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs)# tallied a career-best four points on two goals and two assists.  #Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# also matched a career-high with two goals and two assists, while #Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) tallied the hat-trick and (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Melissa Bromley (Aurora, Ontario/Aurora Panthers)# recorded two goals and an assist.  #Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)#, #Emilee Bulleid (Waterdown, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)#, #Celeste Brown (Great Falls, MT/National Sports Academy) and Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets)# also scored for the Tigers.  The goal by Grigg was the first of her collegiate career.  #Morgan Scoyne (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)# dished out four assists, while Grigg added three helpers to her goal for a four point night. 

#Laura Chamberlain (Norco, CA/LA Selects) and Carley King (Tinley Park, IL)# combined on the shutout for RIT.  Chamberlain needed to make just three saves in two periods of play, while King made three third period stops.

The Tigers dominated from the opening whistle, scoring five times in the first period, and six more in the second.  RIT out-shot Chatham 61-6.  The Tigers were 3-for-5 with the man-advantage, while Chatham was 0-for-2.

Kaitlynn Smith made 20 saves in the first period, while Megan Buchanan stopped 25 shots in just under 33 minutes.  Chelsea Love made one save in the final seven minutes for Chatham.

RIT rolled to a 5-0 lead after one period of play, scoring twice in the first 2:20, and three times in the first 4:40 of the contest.  McCrea opened the scoring with her eighth goal of the year just 1:11 in off a scramble in front.  Schlattman tapped in a rebound just 1:09 later.

McCrea tallied her second goal of the game at the 4:40 mark, taking a feed from Schlattman in front for her ninth goal of the year.  Hiller tallied her seventh of the year, whistling a shot past Smith at the 9:30 matrk.  Schlattman completed the scoring in the first period by tallying from the left face-off circle at the 18:05 mark.

The Tigers added six second period goals.  Bulleid took a feed from Hall in the slot, coming in from her point position and whistling a shot past Buchanan for her second of the year.  Yokoyama took a brilliant feed from #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) after a deft pass by (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Ali Hills (Honeoye Falls, NY)# and put a shot from in front through the legs of Buchanan to make it 7-0.  Brown made it 8-0 at the 12:32 mark, completing a nifty three-way passing play from Kuncihika and Yokoyama. 

Hall tallied her third goal of the year tapping a feed from McCrea home from in tight for her third goal of the year at the 16:17 mark.  Just 26 seconds later, Bromley swept in a rebound after a shot from Bulleid was stopped for her third goal of the year.  Hiller completed the scoring in the period at the 18:11 mark, ripping a shot home from the slot after she won a face-off.

Bromley, Hall, Hiller, and Grigg completed the scoring in the third period.

RIT is 9-0-0 all-time against the Cougars, out-scoring them, 74-4.  The 15 goals are the most scored in a game by the Tigers since scoring 17 against Potsdam two seasons ago.

The Tigers and Cougars conclude their season series on Saturday at 3 p.m.
