Women's soccer falls to Skidmore in the Liberty League semifinals

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The third seeded RIT (8-10-0) women's soccer team was defeated by second seeded Skidmore College 2-0 in the semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament. The Thoroughbreds advance to the championship game where they will face the winner between William Smith and St. Lawrence.

RIT held a 13-11 shot advantage and had eight corner kicks to six for the Throughbreds. Senior Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) took the loss allowing two goals and making five saves. Meghan Sleezer picked up the shut out win for Skidmore making seven saves.

Skidmore got on the board first on Abby Benton's first goal of the season. She scored off assists from Christine Bellotti and Kelsey Yam in the 23rd minute.

Yam made it 2-0 Skidmore with a goal in the 71st minute. She headed in a pass from Bellotti in front of the RIT net.

Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) and Jackie Jacobson (Westlake, CA/Westlake) each had three shots, including two on goal for the Tigers. Jaimie Lewandowski (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), Katie Schindler (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and Ashlene Potter (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) each had a shot on goal for the Tigers.
