Top ranked women's hockey wins at Potsdam

POTSDAM, NY -- The No. 1 RIT wwomen's hockey team improved to 5-0-0 on the season with a 4-2 win over SUNY Potsdam in ECAC West action on Friday evening. The Tigers scored two goals in the second period to win their fifth straight to open the season.

Freshman #Morgan Scoyne (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)# scored two goals, and #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) and Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas) each tallied a goal for the Tigers who outshot Potsdam 34-14. (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)Laura Chamberlain (Norco, CA/LA Selects)# picked up her fourth win of the season allowing two goals and making 12 saves.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal from Annmarie Lewis at 7:43 of the first period on assists from Breanna Roy and Brittany Lucky.

RIT tied the score at 1-1 with a power play goal from Scoyne at 9:27 of the first on an assists from #Emilee Bulleid (Waterdown, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)#.

McCrea tallied her sixth of the season twenty-six seconds into the second period on assists from #Kristina Moss (Webster, NY/Buffalo Bisons) and Danielle Read (Brantford, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# to give the Tigers their first lead of the game.

Kunichika increased RIT's lead to 3-1 with her fifth goal of the season at 3:20 of the second off assists from #Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)# and Moss.

Scoyne made it 4-1 on her second of the game and third of the season at 17:04 of the third on assists from #Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury) and Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder)#.

The Bears added a late goal to cut the lead to 4-2.

RIT was 1-for-8 on the power play, while Potsdam was 2-for-9 with the man advantage.

RIT will face Potsdam on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Potsdam, New York.
