BOSTON, MA - The RIT volleyball team (10-15) dropped a pair of contests at the UMass Boston Invitational on Saturday afternoon. RIT dropped the opener to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in five sets, then lost to Western Connecticut State in four sets.
In the opening match against U.S. Coast Guard, RIT lost the first set 25-20, but rebounded to win the next two, 25-23. Coast Guard took the fourth set, 25-22, then won the fifth and decisive set, 15-10. Junior
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) slammed a career-high 23 kills, while
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) led the squad with 43 assists, 19 digs, and six blocks.
Kyra Wilson-Houck (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) recorded 11 kills, while
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) had 10 kills and 10 digs.
Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) recorded six blocks and four service aces.
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) had 15 digs.
RIT lost the first set to Western Connecticut State 25-23, then won set two, 25-21, before losing three and four, 25-18, and 25-14. Wilson-Houck slammed 14 kills, while Davis led the way with 10 digs. Worth dished out 33 assists and added eight digs. Cooper and Moore recorded eight kills each.
Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) chipped in with six kills.
Last night, the Tigers fell to No. 17 UMass Boston in three sets.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, as they make the quick trip to face SUNY Brockport in a non-league match that gets underway at 7 p.m.
