ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team ran its scoreless streak to 484 minutes and their unbeaten run to five games, defeating Clarkson University (4-7-1, 2-2-0 Liberty League) 1-0 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Dave Boselli (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnett Valley) scored the game-winner, his first collegiate goal, in the 74th minute to give the Tigers their fourth win in the last five games. The Tigers improve to 6-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the Liberty League.
RIT dominated shots 18-4 including 14 in the second half. The Tigers took five corner kicks to four for the Golden Knights.
Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up his sixth shutout win of the season making two saves. Saverino Spganolo took the loss allowing one goal and making eight saves.
After a fairly even first half, RIT took control in the second half generating several good scoring chances.
Jimmy Forbes (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) had a good chance early in the half on a nice 1-2 play with
David Vogt (Rochester, NY/McQuaid).
Donnie Maguire (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) had a header in the box off a corner kick that Spagnolo tipped over the cross bar. Boselli had a good chance off a good hard shot from 20 yards out that just missed the post.
The Tigers finally broke through in the 73rd minute.
Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) sent a ball into the box on a corner kick. The ball came right to Boselli's feet and he fired a hard low shot through traffic that found the lower right corner for his first career goal.
RIT's defense was stout. Senior
Todd Gaulocher (Old Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) had a nice play inside the RIT box, taking the ball away from Tobin Boomer just as he was about to take a shot. The Tigers defense allowed just four shots in all including none in the second half.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, October 11 when the Tigers host St. John Fisher College at 4 pm on RIT Field.
