ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT volleyball team (16-21) fell to SUNY Fredonia in four sets in its opening match of the 2011 New York State Regional Challenge hosted by University of Rochester on Friday. The Tigers won the first set, 25-21, then Fredonia came back to win the next three, 25-19, 25-10, 25-18. RIT rebounded to beat Lycoming in three sets, 30-28, 25-22, 25-22,
Against Fredonia,
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) continued her strong play of late, leading the way with 11 kills while hitting .409.
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) added 10 kills, while
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 35 assists and recorded 12 digs.
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) led the way with 17 digs.
The Tigers hit just .042 as a team.
In the win over Lycoming,
Kyra Wilson-Houck (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) led the way by slamming 16 kills, while Sullivan was a force in the middle, with 14 kills, while hitting .565. She also added five blocks. Worth dished out 38 assists and added three blocks, while Davis recorded 11 digs.
Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) added three service aces.
The Tigers will conclude the 2011 season on Saturday against NYU and Rochester.
