ROCHESTER, NY -- On a cold and blustery day in Rochester, the RIT men's soccer team defeated Bard College (3-11-0, 0-6-0 LL) 2-1 in overtime. Senior
Todd Gaulocher (Old Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) scored with 7:22 remaining in the second overtime to lift the Tigers to victory. The win is the fifth straight and seventh in eight games for RIT who improve to 9-3-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the Liberty League.
Sean Sullivan (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in 33rd minute.
Andy Fleckenstein (Farmington, NY/Victor) fired a shot that Devon Connelly saved. However, the rebound came right to Sullivan and he buried a shot into the right corner for his first goal of the season.
The Tigers were 1:38 from closing out the game, when the Raptors had a nice build up. Jacob Hartog fired a cross into the RIT penalty area that Christian Letourneau ran onto and headed into the far corner for his first tally of the season tying the game at 1-1.
The goal by Bard was the first goal conceded by the Tiges since Sept. 17 versus SUNY Oswego. It breaks a streak of 752 consecutive scoreless minutes by the Tigers defense which is a program record.
Dan Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/St. Ignatius) had two good chances in the first overtime session the best coming with just under two minutes to play.
David Vogt (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) sent Holowaty free, but his shot was fisted aside by Connelly.
In the second overtime, Gaulocher fired a shot from 22 yards out that deflected off a Bard defender and into the net to give the Tigers the win. It was Gaulocher's first goal of the season and helped RIT improve to 5-0-1 in the Liberty League and maintain second place in the standings with 16 points.
RIT dominated shots 28-5 and had foour corner kicks to one for the Raptors.
Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up his ninth win of the season allowing one goal and making one save. Connelly took the loss allowing two goals and making eight saves.
The Tigers are off until Oct. 19 when they travel to face Utica College at 4 pm in Utica, New York.
