ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team increased their unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 win over St. John Fisher College (3-7-1) in non-conference action on Tuesday. The Tigers run thir scoreless streak to 574 minutes outscoring their opponents 6-0 in that stretch. With the win RIT improves to 7-3-2 on the season.
Sophomore
Jimmy Forbes (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) scored twice for the Tigers early in the first half and the RIT defense took care of the rest, allowing just five total shots and three on net.
Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up his seventh shut out win of the season making three saves.
Todd Gaulocher (Old Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) had two assists, while
Dan Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/St. Ignatius), RIT's leading scorer, added another assist.
Forbes struck in the fourth minute off a long throw by Gaulocher. Forbes ran onto the ball by Gaulocher and headed a shot into the corner for his first tally of the season giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
RIT and Forbes struck for the second time in the 13th minute. Gaulocher had another long throw into the box. Holowaty headed the ball towards the net and Forbes ran onto the ball and finished with a shot and a 2-0 RIT lead.
The Cardinals lone scoring chance came late in the first half on a shot by Jesse Marano off a 2-on-1 play. Marano's shot went right at Conway who deflected it aside and kept a clean sheet.
The Tigers defense clamped down in the second half allowing just three shots and two on net. Holowaty had two good scoring chances but the post robbed him of a goal and a nice save by Brendan Kazmierski denied Holowaty a second time.
RIT out shot the cardinals 16-5. St. John Fisher had five corner kicks to just two for the Tigers. Kazmierski took the loss in net for St. John FIsher allowing two goals and making three saves.
RIT returns to Liberty League action on Friday, Oct. 14 when the Tigers host Vassat at 4 pm on RIT Field.
