ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (4-6) men's basketball team was defeated by the University of Rochester (8-3) 88-52 in non-conference action from the Palestra on Tuesday evening. It was RIT's final non-conference game of the season.
RIT fell behind early as the Yellowjackets scored the first 13 points of the game. The Tigers came out cold starting the game 0-4.
Dan Martin (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) scored RIT's first points with 14:19 to play in the half. The Tigers started the game 1-for-9 shooting from the floor and shot 35.5% in the first half.
Rochester shot extremely well from the floor in the first half, shooting 71.4% on 20-of-28 shooting, including 10 three-pointers.
The Yellowjackets built their lead to 28 points late in the half on a three-pointer by John DiBartolomeo and led by 27 at the break.
RIT got to within 24 points in the second half.
The Tigers shot 34.4% from on the game on 21-of-61 shooting. RIT made just 7-of-20 from behind the arc and were out-rebounded by the Yellowjackets 35-26.
Senior
Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) led RIT with seven points, six rebounds and five assists.
Darryl Anderson (San Diego, CA/Southwest),
Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) and
Dan Martin (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) each scored five points for the Tigers who fall to 4-6 on the season.
RIT looks to get back on track on Friday, January 7 when the Tigers host Stevens. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. and will be televised on Time Warner Cable Sports channel 26 or 1026 for HD subscribers.
