Men's swimming and diving drops close race to University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team lost a close race to the University of Rochester, 151-149, this afternoon at Rochester. Kevin Hom (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert), Frank Zelinger (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School), and Evan Wendt (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) grabbed the top spot in at least two events. The Tigers are now 8-2 overall on the season.

The 4x400-yard relay team of Bryan Minicucci (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Zac Parker (Rochester, NY/Brighton), Kyle Wilson (Buffalo, NY/Canisius), and Ryan Marchant (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) placed second with a time of 1:41.73. Finishing first and second in the 200-yard butterfly were Frank Zelinger (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School) and Alex Hebert (Norwell, MA/Norwell High School). They clocked in at 2:04.89 and 2:07.34, respectively. Zelinger also led the 100-yard butterfly in 55.25 and the 200-yard IM in 2:05.84.

Kevin Hom (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) finished the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:15.53 and the 500-yard freestyle 4:54.67 for first place in both. He grabbed second place in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:48.97. Kyle Wilson (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) swam the 100-yard backstroke in 57.58 for second place. Ryan Marchant (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) secured first place in a close 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 22.51.

Peter Coutts (Statsburg, NY/F.D. Roosevelt High School) and Joe Meiman (Milford, NH/Milford) finished second and third in the 200-yard breaskstroke with times of 2:24.34 and 2:25.03, respectively. The 200-yard freestyle team of Ryan Marchant (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School), Kevin Hom (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert), Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda), and Tristan Hudak (Livonia, NY/Livonia) nabbed second place with a time of 1:29.40.

Evan Wendt (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) and David Petko (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) placed first and second, respectively, in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Wendt earned a score of 288.45 in the 1-meter and 302.60 in the 3-meter. Petko posted a 215 in the 1-meter and 240.65 in the 3-meter.

The Tigers return to action next Saturday as they travel to compete against cross-town rival Nazareth. The meet will commence at 1 p.m.
