Men's swimming and diving falls to SUNY Geneseo; Rebounds to defeat SUNY New Paltz

-- The RIT men's swimming and diving team (7-1) participated in a three-team meet at SUNY Geneseo on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers suffered their first dual meet loss of the 2010-11 season to SUNY Geneseo, 271-99, and rallied back to defeat SUNY New Paltz, 187-177.

RIT was led by Evan Wendt (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School), who took home first in both diving events. Wendt tallied a score of 477.80 in the 1-meter event and 515.50 in the 3-meter.

Kevin Hom (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:11.92 and took home first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.

Frank Zelinger (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.66. Ryan Marchant (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) had a strong second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (0:55.12).

The team of Nate Marshall (Waverly, NY/Waverly), Bryan Minicucci (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Zac Parker (Rochester, NY/Brighton), and Marchant swam the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:42.95 to earn third place. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tristan Hudak (Livonia, NY/Livonia), Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda), Hom, and Marchant also had a strong showing, finishing their race second (1:31.42).

The team of Marshall, Minicucci, Farrell and Frank Zelinger (Schwenksville, PA/The Hill School) took home fourth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:52.02.

RIT is back in action on Saturday, January 22 against LeMoyne. The meet gets underway at 1 p.m. in Syracuse, New York.
