Men's soccer falls to #14 University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team was defeated by #14 University of Rochester 1-0 in non-conference action from RIT Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers fall to 5-4-1 on the season, while the Yellowjackets improve to 6-0-3 on the season.

Both teams had chances early in the first half. RIT's came in the 13th minute. Senior Bret Dietz (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) ran onto a ball and ripped a low shot that was blocked off by a Rochester defender.

The Yellowjackets had two chances in the 18th minute. Sean Coyne had his low shot blocked by Sean Coots (Binghamton, NY/Johnson City). The rebound came to Scott Zorn who fired a shot that was headed off the line by Jake Yates (Waynesburg, PA/Waynesburg) to keep the game scoreless.

Rochester broke through in the 68th minute on a goal by Jimmy Parrinello. He scored on a one-timer off a cross from Josh Richards.

With five minutes to play the Tigers had a slew of chances off corner kicks. On one opportunity, Yates hit an in-swinging ball that Dan Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/St. Ignatius) re-directed with his head. Rochester goalkeeper Scott Garfing made the save to keep the game at 1-0.

Garfing picked up the win allowing no goals and making one save. RIT's Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) took the loss, allowing one goal and making two saves.

RIT returns to Empire 8 action on Saturday, October 2 when they host #5 Stevens at 1 pm on RIT Field.
