Volleyball opens up Empire 8 play with win over Alfred

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (9-4, 1-0 Empire 8) opened up Empire 8 play with a four-set win over Alfred (5-6, 0-1 Empire 8) in crossover action at Clark Gym on Saturday afternoon.  The Tigers also plau Ithaca at 3:30 p.m.

RIT cruised in the first two sets, 25-11, 25-8, before dropping set three, 30-28.  RIT rebounded to win 25-11 in set four.  Senior Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) led RIT with 15 kills, while adding nine digs, and two service aces.  Sophomore setter Christina Worth# dished out 39 assists to go along with nine digs, and four kills.  Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) recorded 14 digs and three service aces.

Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Katie Sessions (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) recorded three service aces apiece.  Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) ripped nine kills.  Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) and Kyra Wilson-Houck (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) chipped in with six kills apiece. 

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, as they host Stevens at 12:30 p.m. and Utica at 3 p.m.
