Volleyball defeats St. John Fisher and Rochester to finish third at RIT Invitational on Saturday

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (8-4) defeated St. John Fisher in three sets and Rochester in four sets to earn third place at the RIT Invitational on Saturday morning at Clark Gym.  The Tigers finished 3-1 over the weekend.  Senior outside hitter Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) was named to the All-Tournament team.  It is the third straight weekend she has received either All-Tournament or MVP honors in a weekend tournament. 

The Tigers earned 25-21, 27-25, 25-20 victories over St. John Fisher.  The first two sets were close, with RIT drawing away late in the each set.  In the third set, RIT jumped out to a big lead and was able to hold on.

Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) was tremendous for RIT, slamming 16 kills to go along with 11 digs.  Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) added eight kills and hit .417, while Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 31 assists.  Lauren Kraft (Lockport, NY/Holy Angels Academy) added 11 digs, while Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) had five assisted blocks.  Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) recorded six kills, four service aces, and three blocks.

Sydney Kandefer and Becca Smith each had 10 kills for Fisher.

RIT won the first set, 25-18 over Rochester, before the Yellowjackets rallied to win the second set, 25-22.  RIT pulled away to win the third and fourth sets, 25-13, and 25-17, respectively.

Schaffer led the way with 16 kills and 11 digs, while Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) also recorded 15 digs.  Worth recorded 36 assists and six kills.  Moore slammed 10 kills, while Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) added nine.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, September 25, as they host Alfred and Ithaca at the Empire 8 crossover at Clark Gym.
