Men's soccer shuts out Skidmore 3-0 to win Skidmore Alumni Classic

Tigers improve to 4-0-1 on the season

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The RIT men's soccer team defeated Skidmore College 3-0 on Sunday at the Skidmore Alumni Classic. The win improves the TIgers to 4-0-1 on the season, while the Thoroughbred (3-1-1) dropped their first game of the season.

]The teams battled back and forth throughout the first half, but RIT was able to get on the board in the 40th minute when Dom Colaprete (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) scored off Julian Moiwai (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts)'s crossing pass from the far right wing to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

RIT came out and put the game away early in the second half as junioir John Zito (Rochester, NY/East Rochester) broke through the defense and scored on a strike from the top of the box to give the Tigers a two-goal lead at the 49:18 mark.

Less than three minutes, they made it 3-0 when sophomore Matt Broedel (Hamilton, NY/Hamilton)'s shot from the left wing beat Skidmore goalie Nick Peterson.

Freshman Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) recorded the shutout for RIT, making one save. It was his fourth win of the season.

The Tigers outshot Skidmore 19-6. It was a physical game throughout that saw 24 fouls and two yellow cards.

RIT travels to Canton, New York next Friday, September 17 when they face St. Lawrence University. Game time is at 4 pm
