Strong second half gives men's lacrosse win over Nazareth in Empire 8 semis

Tigers to host Ithaca in Empire 8 title game

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (12-5) men's lacrosse team out-scored Nazareth College (12-5) 10-5 in the second half en route to a 13-7 win over the Golden Flyers in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Tournament on Friday.

The second seeded Tigers will host the fourth seeded Ithaca Bombers in the Empire 8 Championship game on Sunday afternoon at 12 pm. The winner will earn the automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

After a tight first half the Tigers opened the third quarter scoring with three straight goals and never looked back, outscoring the Golden Flyers 10-5 in the second half.

RIT scored five goals in the third and five in the fourth to secure a spot in the Empire 8 championship game.

Juniors Kelso Davis (Freeport, ME/Deerfield Academy) and Jordan MacIntosh (Oakville, ON/Holy Trinity) led RIT with five points on three goals and two assists apiece. Senior Sean Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/Albany Academy) had four points on three goals and an assist and David Burke (Fairport, NY/Fairport) had a pair of goals.

Iric Bressler (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) had a goal and two assists and Alex Crepinsek (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) had a goal and an assist.

Senior Jerry Ragonese (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) was once again dominant from the face-off "X" winning 18-of-23 draws. He also had 10 ground balls.

#M.J. Kiekebelt# had four caused turnovers and 10 ground balls, and Josh Lewis (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) had three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Junior Robert Tonnessen (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) picked up his tenth win of the season making 14 saves and allowing just seven goals.

RIT will face Ithaca for a chance at the Division III Tournament. The Tigers were defeated by the Bombers 10-8 down in Ithaca earlier this season.
