Men's lacrosse beats Clarkson; wins fifth straight

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse won its fifth straight game on Wednesday defeating Clarkson University 13-4 in non-conference action. The win improves the Tigers to 5-2 on the season while the GOlden Knights fall to 0-6.

RIT broke open a close game in the first quarter with four straight goals in the second quarter leading 7-2 at the half. The Tigers scored two goals in the third quarter and four in the fourth while holding Clarkson to two second-half goals.

Junior Mike Barilla led RIT with three goals on the afternoon. Adam Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) had a goal and four assists and Jordan MacIntosh (Oakville, ON/Holy Trinity) had two goals and three assists.

Jerry Ragonese (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) went 13-of-19 on face offs, scored a goal and grabbed nine ground balls. Dan MacRae (Oakville, Ontario/Holy Trinity) had seven ground balls and caused three turnovers. #M.J. Kiekebelt had four ground balls and four caused turnovers. (Camillus, NY/West Genesee)Robert Tonnessen# picked up his third win of the season making nine saves. He is 3-0 on the season.

Bryan Huff paced Clarkson with three goals, one assist and four ground balls. Freshm Kyle Hohmann took the loss making 12 saves.

RIT out shot Clarkson 53-21 and won the ground ball battle 45-23. The Tigers went 1-for-4 with the mad advantage and were 17-of-20 on clears.

The Tigers open Empire 8 conference play on Saturday, March 27 when they host Hartwick College at 1 pm on RIT Field.
