Men's hockey travels to Army for final regular season road contests of the season

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's hockey team travels east to play a pair of crucial Atlantic Hockey Association contests at Army this weekend.  Both Friday and Saturday's contests begin at 7:05 p.m.  RIT leads the AHA standings with 33 points.  It is the final regular season road trip for RIT.

Last weekend, the Tigers split a pair of games at Sacred Heart, winning 5-2 on Friday, then falling 5-4 on Saturday.  Andrew Favot (King City, Ontario/) was named the AHA Player of the Week after recording five points in the two-game series.  Cameron Burt (Detroit, MI/) added five assists over the weekend.  RIT (16-11-1, 16-5-1 AHA) holds sole possession of first place in the AHA standings with 33 points, three ahead of Air Force.

Favot leads the Tigers in scoring with 30 points (9-21-30) in 27 games. Burt leads RIT with 11 goals.  Brenner has six goals over his last six games.  The Tigers have 13 players with at least 10 points.  Senior defenseman Alan Mazur (Burnaby, British Columbia/) needs just four points for 100 in his career.

Army (10-13-5, 9-9-4 AHA) comes into this weekend fresh off a split at Holy Cross. On Friday, Army fell to Holy Cross, 5-3, but rebound to defeat the Crusaders, 4-1 on Saturday. Eric Sefchik led the Black Knights with five points (2-3-5) in the two contests. On Saturday, he scored twice, while goaltender Jay Clark made 35 saves in the win. Sefchik has team-best totals of 22 assists and 31 points, Cody Omilusik leads the squad with 15 goals and is second with 30 points. Owen Meyer has 22 points. In net, Jay Clark has played in 25 games, posting a 10-11-4 record to go along with a 2.76 goals against average and .915 save percentage.

This weekend's meetings will be the third and fourth between the two schools this season. On Nov. 6-7, RIT swept the Black Knights by scores of 6-1 and 2-1. In the first contest, the line of Scott Knowles (Riverside, Ontario/), Burt, and Sean Murphy (Owatonna, MN/) combined for nine points. The next night, Favot scored the game-winning goal with 2:46 left in the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie, lifting RIT to a 2-1 win. RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 5-2-3. RIT went 1-0-1 at Tate Rink last season, winning 3-2 and earnng a 1-1 tie.
