Women's basketball falls in season opener to Hamilton

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's basketball team was defeated by Hamilton College 77-56 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the 2010 RIT Tournament. Freshman forward #Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland)# led the Tigers with 24 points in her collegiate debut.

RIT trailed 41-30 at the half, but made a run early in the second half, cutting the Continentals lead to 48-41 on a layup by sophomore Alex Kelly. That capped off an 11-4 run by the Tigers to open the second half. Kelly finishes with seven points.

The Continentals outscored the Tigers 29-15 over the final 16 minutes to pull away for the win.

Tennant led all scorers with 24 points. She was 11-of-17 from the floor, including one three pointer. The freshman grabbed two rebounds.

Sophomore #Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) added eight points and five assists for the Tigers who fall to 0-1 on the season. Freshman (Neptune, NJ/Neptune)Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Hamilton's Madie Harlem paced the Continentals with 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting. She grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists.

Dani Feigin added 14 points for the Continentals who are 1-0 on the season, Eliza Howe added 11 points and Claire Hunsinger and Kim Goidell each scored eight points.

RIT will face St. Lawrence tomorrow afternoon at 12 pm in game two of the RIT Tournament. Hamilton will face Albany College of Pharmacy.
