GENESEO, NY - The RIT volleyball team (16-6) cruised to a three-set victory over host SUNY Geneseo (9-16) on Tuesday evening in a non-league match. The Tigers posted a 25-23, 25-19, 25-18 win. RIT has now won four straight and 10 of its last 12 matches.
Senior
Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) drilled a game-high19 kills, while sophomore
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished 34
assists with 13 digs and four blocks to lead the Tigers. Sophomore
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) added seven kills and eight digs, while classmate
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) chipped in with six kills and five blocks for RIT.
Geneseo received 11 kills from senior Krista Frieling, eight kills from junior Kat Strickland and 31
assists from freshman Noelle Morrison.
In the first set, the Tigers scored five straight points to take a 22-16 lead, but the Blue Knights responded with five straight to cut the deficit to 24-23 before RIT finished off the set. In the second set, RIT took command early at 6-1, but Geneseo bounced back to lead 14-10 on a Frieling kill. The Tigers caught fire to score 13 of the next 15 points to put the set away. In the third set, the Tigers scored three points in a row to lead 15-10 and Geneseo never got closer than three points the rest of the way.
The Tigers return to action on Friday and Saturday, as they compete at the Clarkson Tournament. RIT opens by playing Elizabethtown at 1 p.m. Friday
