ITHACA, NY - The RIT volleyball team (21-10, 5-1 Empire 8) split a pair of matches at the Empire 8 crossover hosted by Ithaca on Friday evening. The Tigers opened the evening with a tough, five-set loss to Nazareth, but rebounded to sweep Hartwick in three sets. If RIT wins both of its matches on Saturday, they will clinch the top seed and host the Empire 8 Championship on Nov. 6.
RIT dropped the opener to Nazareth, 19-25, 25-23, 29-27, 18-25, 8-15.
Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) recorded a double-double, with 15 kills and 15 assists to lead RIT.
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) added 13 kills.
Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) recorded a career-high eight blocks, while
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 37 assists.
All 16 Tigers played in the 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 win over Hartwick.
Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) recorded 13 digs, while Moore added 31 assists and a pair of service aces. Schaffer slammed nine kills. Moore and
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) added seven and four kills, respectively.
Lauren Kraft (Lockport, NY/Holy Angels Academy) added five digs.
The Tigers open play on Saturday against Elmira at 2:30 p.m. and finish with St. John Fisher at 5 p.m.
